Course Description

French 1 P (9,10,11,12)

Prerequisites: Good attendance and good study habitsBeginning French includes the study of the pronunciation system and the learning of vocabulary through stories, poems, songs, and conversation. French is a valuable language for the student whose interests lie in the fields of literature, art, music, business, government, and science. Homework is assigned daily.

French 2 P (10,11,12)

Prerequisite: A grade of "C" or better in French 1 French 2 continues French 1 with increased emphasis upon communication skill. French culture, art, and music are studied. More complex structure is learned and used.

French 3 H (11,12)

Prerequisite: A grade of "B" or better in French 2 or teacher approval.New vocabulary and syntax are learned. There is more emphasis upon culture, history, literature, and music. More complex original oral work is done. Novels and short stories are read.

French AP (12)

Prerequisite: grade of "B" or better in French 3 or teacher approvalStudents continue preparation for the Advanced Placement examination in French language. Original oral practice and written work are emphasized. College-level course work is emphasized.
