About the Pirate Sports Medicine Program

The Pirate Sports Medicine program has been in operation since the fall of 1986.  Since then, it has developed into an effective program that has become an integral part of athletics at RHS.  The athletic trainers participating in this program work hard to provide a variety of health-related care / services to the athletes (650+) who participate in any of our 22 varsity, 18 JV, and 12 freshman athletic teams each year.  The number of athletic training student aides (ATSA's) in the program varies from 6-16 annually.  Typically, there are 12 HS ATSA's and 1-3 college interns each year.  All contribute a great deal of time and energy toward the program.

Along with serving as Certified Athletic Trainers and teachers in the science department, Kirby Kauk and Lisa Marchese both serve as clinical site instructors for the Athletic Training Curriculum Program at Fresno State University. This partnership allows CSU-Fresno students to gain athletic training experience at Reedley High School as part of their clinical rotation. In turn, they help to provide needed medical support for the RHS athletic programs.
